Tsim Sha Tsui Harbor City | Best Actor Chow Yun-fat Charity Photo Exhibition"Hong Kong Morning" @harbourcity

Description

In Hong Kong in the early morning, the lights have not yet been turned on, and only the morning sun shines between the buildings; in the usually noisy bustling city, there are only a few people walking through the quiet streets at this moment. At this time, you may encounter Chow Yun-fat on the street - not running, but taking photos with a camera.

Movie king Chow Yun-fat has always loved photography and has played countless classic roles. This time he appears in front of the public in another role - a photographer. He uses his camera to record the people and things in Hong Kong in the early morning. With the theme of "Hong Kong Morning", he takes the stage in Harbor City. Hold a charity photography exhibition. The exhibition includes the main work "Untitled" which captures a different Victoria Harbor. It is divided into three exhibition areas: "Hong Kong", "Hong Kong" and "Morning", which are flower photography, street photography and "self-portrait" series. A total of 30 pictures are on display. Works taken by him himself. The photography exhibition will be held at the Exhibition Hall of Harbor City Ocean Terminal from December 18, 2024 to January 2, 2025, and the proceeds will be donated to charities after deducting part of the cost.

From black-and-white film to digital cameras, Fa Ge uses shallow depth of field to present various aspects of the city in the early morning

Fat Brother has been doing exercise in Central in the morning since last year. Since he loves photography, he simply goes out early to take pictures. Wandering the streets at seven o'clock in the morning, he likes to capture the different scenes of the city that are completely different from those during the day or night.

"The whole Central is different from what you see on weekdays. All walks of life go to work to serve this financial district. I (before becoming an actor) worked in Central for a long time, so I have my own way of seeing those streets. Feelings, because I have experienced them myself.”

When shooting on the street, Fa Ge is used to traveling lightly, with only one camera and two lenses. "One f/2.8 Shadowman and one f/3.5 Shadowscape" were both taken from one of his old 120 film cameras. He even directly removed the aperture blades of the lens, so that this series of works were shot at full aperture, achieving the effect of shallow depth of field (the subject is clear, the background is blurred): "The sense of separation is so interesting, the back is so blurry, there is only one subject. Sharp makes Central seem unrealistic and unreal.” He used to shoot in black and white, but even now he uses a digital camera and still shoots slowly, one by one, without any rush. He joked that when he was shooting, it was like "shooting birds" (bird photography). He thought about the composition in advance, set up the camera tripod, and then patiently waited for passers-by to step on his "trap" (focus point) before pressing the shutter; The large aperture allows him to shorten the shutter speed to capture the most emotive moment.

The main work "Untitled" freezes the different scenery of Victoria Harbor under black rain.

When talking about photography, Fa Ge not only beamed with excitement, but also treasured his works very much and always loved to tell the stories behind the photos. The main work in the exhibition is a photo of Victoria Harbor taken under black rain. At that time, Fa Ge looked out from the open-air parking lot of Ocean Terminal in Harbor City. The sky on the other side was gloomy and the lights were not on. It happened that there were three ships of different colors near the pier. The Star Ferry has a sharp contrast in light, dark and color. "I feel so special. It's so rare to get such an opportunity. Photography is like this." He recalled.

Various shooting subjects: plants, landscapes, passers-by and yourself

In addition to the main works, the exhibition is divided into three exhibition areas. The exhibition area "Fragrance" is devoted to flower photography, including budding land lotuses and blooming yellow daisies. The shallow depth of field brings a dreamy feeling like an oil painting. The exhibition area "Hong Kong" is the early morning when Fa Ge captured the work of the camp in Central. Under his lens, there were ladies with swaying skirts, tireless cleaners, and office workers in groups. Among the four "self-portraits" in the exhibition area "Morning", Fa Ge's own figure is vaguely reflected through the glass, making him as a photographer not only blend into the crowd, but also exist in the works. This kind of distance and interaction between the photographer and the subject makes him very interesting.

A limited number of the 30 photographs in the exhibition will be printed for charity sale. The charity price of each picture is HK$2,800 to HK$28,000. All of them are autographed by Fa Ge. Proceeds from the exhibition, after deducting costs, will be donated to charity.

This time Harbor City has specially produced a limited edition exhibition paper for this exhibition. In addition to the designated distribution points in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories, visitors can redeem a free copy of the exhibition publication on-site as long as they publicly share photos of the exhibition on their personal Facebook, Instagram or Xiaohongshu and add designated tags. Quantity is limited, first come first served.
